Ways by which SARS Spreads

The spread of SARS or Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome was a very alarming situation for everyone in the international community. It killed hundreds of people and the possibility of it breaking out as a worldwide pandemic is likely to happen. It is still mysterious how the virus is able to spread. However, several scientists have thought of certain possible ways by which the virus could possibly be spreading. By studying and understanding these things, one may be able to keep themselves away from this disease.

SARS is known to affect the respiratory system. One of the most apparent symptoms of it is the shortness of breathing. One may have a difficulty breathing when he/she has the virus causing the SARS problem. Other commonly reported symptoms include body aches, high fever, and dry cough.

There are several ways by which SARS virus spreads. The most common way of it spreading is called the droplet transmission. This is where the virus gets transmitted to another person when he/she comes in contact with the bodily fluids of the sick person. When one is sick and he sneezes or cough, he releases tiny droplets which contain viruses. These droplets could then be everywhere especially if the sick person does not use towels or handkerchiefs to cover their noses or mouths when they sneeze or cough. Once another person comes in contact with these tiny droplets, the virus inside those droplets will be able to easily spread inside his body. That then triggers the disease for another individual. The most common places where germs are able to accumulate are those places which people usually come in contact with. These are the pay phones, trash can lids, door knobs, etc. The best thing to do in order to avoid these droplets is to wash your hands regularly. If you came in contact with something that the sick person had touched, it would be wise to immediately wash your hands properly.

Another way by which SARS is able to spread is the superspreader.  The horrendous fact about SARS is that it is able to spread via minute and microscopic articles that can travel through the air. This disease has its way of accumulating virus inside one’s lungs and instantly ejects them once a person coughs. This then makes the person spew out the virus to the area on which he coughed. That is why several people wore masks when the terrible phenomenon happened.
